Volunteering
Ways to Volunteer
We do, from time to time, need volunteers to read with children or assist in classrooms and other areas of school/learning.
Reading Volunteers
We are delighted to be able to have volunteers in school again and are now looking for parents/carers to come into school and help our pupils with their reading. Here at Myatt Garden, we want to instil confidence and inspire a love of reading in every child. Some children lack confidence in reading and would greatly benefit from practising their skills 1:1 with an adult.
As a reading volunteer, you would work 1:1 with two or three children, spending time with each child talking about the book they are reading and listening to them read. You would work with the same children each week, getting to know them and watching them progress.
Gardening Volunteers
We are also looking for volunteers to help our Year 1 and 2 children in the allotments. Volunteers help the children with gardening activities such as sowing seeds and planting vegetables. This project is led by one of our parents and takes place on Monday and Tuesdays from 1:30-2:45pm. The children absolutely love their time in the allotments but without volunteers we won’t be able to continue to take them gardening. No gardening experience is necessary, just an interest in helping children enjoy the natural world. It’s fun and very rewarding!
If you are interested in becoming a reading or gardening volunteer, please read the Volunteer Policy and return the completed Volunteer Application Form to the school office FAO Ms Williams. Alternatively, paper copies of the policy and application form can be collected from the school office.
School Governors
You don’t need to be a parent or education expert to volunteer as a governor at our school. Our school requires a combination of hard and soft skills to ensure our boards operate effectively. If you’re over 18 and willing to devote some of your time to improving educational standards every month, we encourage you to express your interest. Start by downloading the information pack below.
